Doris was born the third of four children on August 30, 1941, to Ralph A. and Amanda M. (Nuss) Godtel on the family farm near Clay Center, NE. She grew up on the farm near Clay Center and graduated from Clay Center High School in 1959. She married Richard L. Shockey on February 20, 1970. Through 49 years of marriage, they raised two children and lived for the most part in Sutton, Grafton and currently reside just south of York. She was employed as a server most of her life and retired from Petro of York in 2005.

She loved all of her family and friends and especially watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. She enjoyed spending her free time after retirement reading, taking care of Pepper (her dog), chatting with family and giving blood at the Red Cross Blood Mobile. Doris was known for her stubbornness and had a desire to live life her way. She would like to be remembered as a free spirit who worked hard for the things that were most important to her, family and friends.

The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and all the medical staffs at Fillmore Central Medical Center in Geneva, Bryan LGH West, Nebraska Hematology and Oncology and Tabitha Hospice for the excellent care they gave during her battle with cancer.

She is survived by her husband, Richard L. Shockey of York, NE; daughter, Tammy Shaw of Grafton, NE; son-in-law, James Shaw of Hastings, NE; son, Brian and wife Kim Shockey of Holmen, WI; grandchildren, Christopher Shaw; Stephany Shaw (Tyler); Tyler (Destiney) Shockey; Shelbi Shockey (William); Dylan Shockey; Kyle Freybler; Justin (Cindy) Freybler and D.J. Riniker; great-grandchildren, Dominic, Beretta and Evalyn; brothers, Dean and Jim Godtel and sister, Helen Dierburger.
