Lorene attended Sutton Public School and graduated with the class of 1939. She married Jarold Schmer on August 28, 1940. Two children were born to this union: Ronald and Steven. The family lived and farmed south of Sutton, and Lorene was a homemaker. After Jarold’s retirement, they moved into Sutton. Due to the onset of dementia, Lorene moved to Hillcrest View Assisted Living in 2011. As dementia progressed, she later moved to Westfield Quality Care in Aurora.

Lorene was a member of the Federated Church in Sutton, actively serving with the women’s fellowship group for many years. She was also a past member of the SOS Extension Club. She loved playing bridge, gardening, canning, and baking, but she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lorene was preceded in death by her parents William and Anna; her stepmother Francis Oswald Baumann; husband Jarold; sons Ronald and Steven; sisters Florence Mateja and Velma Sutton; and brothers Glenn Baumann and Mervin Baumann.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law Gertie Schmer of Sutton, Nebraska; grandson Mike Schmer of Sutton, Nebraska; granddaughter Laura Weaver and husband Randy of Fairmont, Nebraska; great-granddaughter McKenna Schmer of Hastings, Nebraska; step-great-grandchildren Shelby Weaver of Lincoln, Nebraska and Colton Weaver and wife Katharine of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 3 step great-great-grandchildren; sister Norma Hernandez of San Diego, California; sister-in-law Sharon Baumann of Omaha, Nebraska; and nieces and nephews.
