Don P. Stevens

Sutton resident, Don P. Stevens, 57, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at Henderson Health Care in Henderson, NE. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 23, 2015, at the Federated Church in Sutton, NE with Rev. Mary Scott officiating. Interment will follow at the Sutton Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 p.m. - 8 p.m., with the family greeting friends from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, NE. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Don was born on September 19, 1958, in Hastings, NE. As a child, Don lived in several states around the country with his mom, sister and 5 brothers, before they eventually settled back in Saronville, Nebraska, attending high school in Sutton. During high school, Don took up boxing, winning four state championships before hanging up his gloves to start a family with his wife Jody. Don and Jody were married on June 17, 1978. They began a family, living in or near Sutton for their entire marriage. They raised two daughters, Erica and Danielle. Thinking their family was complete, they got a big surprise when their third daughter Ashby arrived. A couple of years later, their family grew again when they welcomed their fourth daughter, Jadyn. Don worked at Sutton Pig Producers for 18 years. He later worked as a hired man for Josie and Kevin Hofmann on their farm for 9 years. Kevin, Josie and their family became his family, and he became more to them than just a hired man. After Kevin's passing, Don worked for Stengel Farms for just over a year prior to his death, although they treated him like he had worked for them for a lifetime. In his free time, Don enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and occasionally would get time to go help his son-in-law in the pits at Junction Motor Speedway. He also liked watching boxing and football. Early on he enjoyed hunting pheasants and deer, but he joked that he didn't anymore because he couldn't hit anything anyway. He also loved spending time with family and friends. Loved by many, his humor always lightened the room. Don is survived by his wife, Jody of Sutton, NE; four daughters, Erica and husband Edd Huxoll of Sutton, NE; Danielle and husband Casey Shore of Harvard, NE; Ashby Stevens and Jadyn Stevens both of Sutton, NE; nine grandchildren, Alivia; Jacob; and Max Huxoll all of Sutton, NE; Colton; Jayden; Madison; Lane; Carson; and Maryah Shore of Harvard, NE; mother, Sharon Dreher of Hastings, NE; sister, Sheryl Richardson and husband Greg; brothers, Doug Stevens; David Stevens; Ronnie Stevens; Rick Stevens; and Rodney Heffner and wife Amy; mother-in-law, Mary Ann Serr; aunts, uncles, numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, great- nieces and nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his Grandparents, Marvin and Eloise Jones; father-in-law, Raymond Serr; niece, Kourtney Robbins and friend, Kevin Hofmann.
