Clay Center, NE resident Harold W. Brumond, 88, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings, NE. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the Clay Center Christian Church in Clay Center, NE with Pastor Chad Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow at the Clay Center Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post #87 Mills-Schroder and the Army National Guard. Visitation with the family present will be Tuesday, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel in Clay Center, NE. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Clay Center Christian Church. Harold William Brumond was born on October 14, 1935, on a farm east of Clay Center to Carl and Jessie (Baker) Brumond. He attended a country school near the farm until high school and graduated from Clay Center Public School in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958 and then the Army Reserves until January 1963. He was stationed in Germany after training. On May 16, 1958, he married the love of his life, Kay Randall, at the Harvard Christian Church. He worked for NPPD and they lived in Hastings until Harold and Kay decided in early 1959 to move to the family farm east of Clay Center and begin a new life. There they raised not only crops and livestock but, also, two children, Laurel and Gregory. He retired from farming in January of 2000, to go on to be a very busy guy with family, hobbies and travel. The family were members and attended the United Methodist Church near their farm until it closed and then Harold and Kay joined the Christian Church in Clay Center. He was a 50-year member of the local American Legion in Clay Center. He served on the Clay Center school board for two terms and he was an FSA Committee member for a number of years. Harold had so many hobbies and interests. He loved playing golf, cards, fishing, watching Nebraska football and traveling. Harold and Kay traveled to many places, in the U.S. and abroad. Harold never knew a stranger, he was known to introduce himself “Hi, I’m Harold Brumond and I’m a farmer from Nebraska.” He loved watching and going to Husker games. They played golf on over 160 golf courses in the U.S. and Canada. He was co-founder of “Old Farts League” at the Crooked Creek Course in Clay Center and enjoyed so much his Tuesday afternoons with great friends. Family was so important to him and he was so proud of each of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family gatherings were a highlight and there was always a game or two of cards. He also had lots of hobbies. One of his favorite hobbies was restoring old neglected trucks. His 46 trucks found new homes all across the country. Some new owners kept in touch with him. He loved working with his hands and created many wood projects. Harold passed away on May 15, 2024, in Hastings. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Hubert Brumond; and nephew, David Brumond. Harold is survived by his wife of 66 years, Kay (Randall) Brumond; daughter, Laurel and her husband, John Kohmetscher of Fairfield; son, Gregory and his wife Melissa (Skalka) Brumond of Waverly; five grandchildren, Nathan Kohmetscher; Brian (Amy) Kohmetscher; Eric (Rachel) Kohmetscher; Maggie Brumond and Emily Brumond; three great-grandchildren, Macy; Kinsley and Kayden Kohmetscher; his sister-in-law, Anita Randall of Harvard; and nieces, nephews and many friends.
