Jo A Johnson

Former Sutton resident Jo A. Johnson, 86, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the Broadstone Healthcare Hospital in Superior, NE. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton with Rev. Mary Scott officiating. Interment will follow at the Sutton Cemetery. In honoring her wishes there will not be a public visitation or viewing. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated later. Jo A. Johnson was born January 20, 1937, in Red Cloud, NE., to Orie Campbell and Neva Harqus. She graduated from Inavale, NE. She married Rick Johnson on October 10, 1970, in Hasting, NE. She held many jobs during her lifetime, nursing assistant at Inavale, NE., and Red Cloud, NE. She married Rick and moved to Superior, NE., where she babysat for other families. She then became a waitress at the Hill Top Café and worked until they moved to Texas. They had family in Texas, and she worked for her brother-in-law at EW Johnson Industries. They moved to Sutton to retire and remained there until she became ill, and they moved to Superior so she could reside at the Good Samaritan. Jo enjoyed dancing at the VFW in her early years. She loved to have coffee with her friends in Sutton. She gained many friends with the people at the Nursing home and was grandma to all the young employees there. She had the best roommate as it was a very dear friend she had for so long. Jo enjoyed all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was blessed with so many little children to call her so many nicknames. She loved to go to her daughters especially in the spring and summer to see all the flowers growing. Jo loved semis and talking about what they were hauling since her husband was a truck driver their entire marriage. She is survived by her daughter, Pam (Dave) Hamilton of Superior, NE; son, Ken Campbell of Florida; sister-in-law, Dorcus Campbell of Hastings, NE; brother-in-law, Dan (Deb) Johnson of Lead, SD; sister-in-law, Karen White of Alliance, NE; 5 granddaughters, Traci (Chris) Humphries of Superior, NE; Chesiree Campbell of Hastings, NE; Jami (Josh) Charles of Loveland, CO; Nicole Monroe of Evans, CO; Kristen Talbert of Red Cloud, NE; 1 grandson, Mark (Megan) of Lincoln, NE; 15 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Johnson; daughter, Roxi (James) Talbert; mother and stepfather, Nelva (Lawrence) Hansen; father and stepmother, Orie (Ann) Campbell; father-in-law, Leonard Johnson; mother-in-law, Esther Wheatley; brothers, James Campbell and Kenneth Campbell; brother-in-law, Randy (Connie) Johnson; sisters-in-law, Janet Lang and Sherry Pascoe.
