Maxine B. Wilkins

Clay Center resident, Maxine B. Wilkins, 82, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014 at BryanLGH East in Lincoln, Nebraska. Services will be held March 19, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Clay Center Christian Church with Pastor Kevin Whitmore officiating. Burial will be in the Clay Center Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1-8 p.m. with the family present from 5-7 p. m. Maxine was born on March 22, 1931 near Fairfield, Nebraska to George Hamilton and Pearl Blanche (Johnson) Harrison being the youngest of three daughters. She received her formal education at Clay Center Public Schools graduating with the Class of 1948. Maxine was united in marriage to Allen P. Wilkins in Fairfield, Nebraska on December 3, 1950. This union was blessed with three children, Judy, George, and Connie. She was employed at Clay Center Public Schools as a lunchroom cook, as a florist at Four All Seasons, other retail positions and most recently was co-owner of M&M (me & mom) Designs in Hastings. Maxine was a devoted wife and mother, putting her family's needs ahead of her own. She loved people especially the young people and didn't know a stranger. Everyone was welcome in Allen and Maxine's home. She loved animals and her pets were a part of the family. Maxine will be missed for her bright, friendly smile and her kind, compassionate heart. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star, numerous Bible study groups and committees and a life long member of the Clay Center Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Noma and Janice. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Allen of Clay Center, daughters, Judy and husband, Jim Mitchell, Superior, Connie and husband, Gary Whitcomb, Glenvil, son, George and wife, Vicki Wilkins, Denver, Colorado, grandsons, Jared and wife, Kassie Mitchell, Bradenton, Florida, Andrew and Benjamin Wilkins, Omaha, step-grandchildren, Scott Whitcomb and Carrie Marx, Ayr, Todd and wife, Tina Whitcomb, Hastings, and step great-grandchildren, Jordan Whitcomb, Clay Center, Blake Whitcomb, Hastings, Shayla Frakes, Norfolk, and Renea Frakes, Hastings, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Memorials are directed to the Clay Center Christian Church.
