    February 21, 1944 - November 3, 2016

    Sutton, NE resident, Frederick Figi, 72, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016, at CHI Health Nebraska Heart Hospital in Lincoln, NE. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at the Federated Church in Sutton, NE with Pastor Mary Scott officiating. Interment will follow at the Sutton Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Argonne Post #61, Sutton, NE. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m., with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, NE. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Federated Church in Sutton, NE., the American Legion Argonne Post #61, Sutton, NE., or Fox Hollow Golf Course in Sutton, NE. Fred was born February 21, 1944, in Hastings, Ne to Robert M. and H. Fern (Neujhar) Figi.  He graduated from Sutton Public Schools and received his bachelor's degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University. During his time at college he married the love of his life, Cheryl England. Upon graduating from college, Fred joined the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served from 1967-1973. Fred followed in his father's footsteps by entering into the banking profession at City State Bank in Sutton. He eventually became president and CEO of City State Bank. He retired from this position in 1997. Fred and Cheryl had three children: Jonathan, Phillip (Kara), and Meredith (Brandon). Fred also enjoyed spending time with his 6 grandchildren: Claire, Madalyn, Luke, Morgan, Reagan, and Myles. Fred joined the Sutton Federated Church in 1959, where he was active in Men's Bible Study, Choir, and teaching adult Sunday School.  Fred loved to serve others, especially the community of Sutton. He was a member of the American Legion Argonne Post #61, numerous civic organizations, including City Council, and served on several Boards.  He loved to play cards with friends and family, golfing, gardening, yard work, and going for walks. His favorite topics of conversation were his grandchildren, the Marine Corps, Nebraska Football, and politics. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl of Sutton, NE; son, Jonathan Figi of Grand Island, NE; daughter, Meredith (Brandon) Smith of Sutton, NE; son, Phillip (Kara) Figi of Gretna, NE; grandchildren, Claire; Madalyn; Luke; Morgan James; Reagan and Myles; sister, Kay (Royce) Mack of Elkhorn, NE; nephews, David (Linda) Mack of Omaha, NE; and Steve (Suzann) Mack of Overland Park, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Fern; brother, Robert Figi, JR.; and grandson, Korbin.
