Iola Fitzke Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Iola Fitzke, 93, went home to be with the Lord October 12, 2012, with her family by her side at the Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard, Nebraska. She was born August 4, 1919 in Edgar, NE to Charlie and Jessie C. (Bowman) Skinner. She was married to Orville Fitzke in 1939 and spent most of their married life in Fairfield, NE, before moving to Hastings in 1999. She later moved to Harvard, NE in 2005. She will long be remembered for her overwhelming generosity of spirit and love. Her career at Fairfield Elementary Schools food service spanned over many years. Her interests included Nebraska football, sports of all types, gardening and needlework. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family, including her daughter Sharon. She was preceded in death by her husband Orville, her daughter Sharon, her daughter-in-law Gail (Emrich) Fitzke, and her grandson Russell Fitzke. Iola is survived by her twin sister Iona Elifritz, of Edgar, as well as her sons, Robert and Eugene Fitzke, of Hastings, and daughter Phyllis Straatmann of Lincoln and her daughter-in-law Marilyn Fitzke and son-in-law Terry Straatmann. She is also survived by her grandchildren Marcia Uden, Tamilla Fitzke , Sandra Fitzke-Bolte, Michael Straatmann, Jennifer Buckner, and Jeremy Emrich Fitzke. She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren. A celebration of life service will be held 10 am, Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church in Clay Center with Rev. Delmar Klover officiating. Interment at the Fairfield Cemetery will be immediately following. Visitation will be held Friday, October 19, 2012 at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel in Clay Center from 4-8 pm, with family present from 6-8 pm. Memorials may be directed to the Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard, NE as well as the Zion Lutheran Church in Clay Center, NE, where she was a long-time church member.
