Sutton, NE resident Maurice Dale Salmen, 89, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2020, at the Sutton Community Home in Sutton, NE. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 8, 2020, at Zion Lutheran Church in Sutton, NE with Vicar Tim Stacy officiating. Interment will follow at the Sutton Cemetery. Both services will be live-streamed from Sutton Memorial Chapel's Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/suttonmemorial. Visitation with the family present will be Wednesday, from 5 p.m.- 8 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, NE. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated later. Due to the COVID-19 Directed Health Measure, we are limited to 75% occupancy for the Funeral Service and we will be practicing social distancing as indicated by the measure. Masks are required to be worn at the Funeral Service. Maurice was born in rural Fillmore County, on February 8, 1931, son of Raymond and Esther (Goesch) Salmen. He attended country school in Fillmore County and graduated from Sutton High School in 1948. He was drafted into the US Army and served in the Korean Conflict from January 30, 1952, thru October 20, 1953. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars and the United Nations Service Medal Combat Infantry Badge. He attained the rank of Sergeant. He was proud of his military service. He attended agricultural school in Curtis, NE. Maurice was married to Doris McKeen on September 17, 1955, in Lincoln, NE. They had three children, Cheryl, Teri and Tamera. They farmed and lived near Marquette, NE, early on, however, lived the majority of their life on the family farm south of Henderson until retiring in 1999. Maurice enjoyed being actively involved with the farming operation throughout the years and enjoyed raising livestock. He was a member of the Bixby Elevator Board of Directors, the American Legion Argonne Post 61, Sutton Lion's Club, and an active member of Zion Lutheran Church. He served on the Church Council for many years. He loved his church family. Survivors include his daughters, Cheryl (Bob) Olinger of Lincoln, NE; Teri (Jeff) Schelkopf of Sutton, NE; granddaughter, Laura Olinger (Nolan Waak) of Lincoln, NE; sisters, Arylis Huebert of Henderson, NE; Velma (Jerry) Greenfield of Lincoln, NE and Joleen Traudt of LaVista, NE. Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Esther Salmen; wife, Doris; daughter, Tamera; sisters, Lorna Dickensheet and Elaine Ekstrand.
