Duane Edward Mau

Sutton resident Duane Mau, 80, passed away peacefully Monday, September 26, 2022, surrounded by his family at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha after a lengthy hospitalization. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 3, 2022, at the Federated Church in Sutton with Pastor Mary Scott officiating. Interment will follow at the Sutton Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 p.m. – 8 p.m., with the family present from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated later. Duane was born December 13, 1941, on a farm near Harvard to Martin and Marie (Schleiger) Mau. In 1945, the family moved to a farm west of Sutton where Duane started his education at District 9 country school near Saronville. After country school, he attended Sutton Public School graduating in 1959. He continued his education at the Technical College in Milford where he participated in basketball and received his associate degree in auto mechanics. After a brief stint in the auto mechanic world, he chose to join his father in the family farming and scrap business which he continued to operate until his death. On December 29, 1963, Duane married Roberta Johnson at the Federated Church in Sutton. This union was blessed with four children and eight grandchildren. Duane devoted a lot of his time to coaching his children in various sports. He enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s various activities. Duane was a member of the Federated Church, the Masonic Evening Star Lodge 49, the Tehama Shrine and the leader of Cub Scout Troop #164 for 15 years. One activity Duane truly enjoyed was playing and watching fast-pitch softball. Duane is survived by his wife of 59 years Roberta, three sons Todd (Shelly), Brent (Gwenda) all of Sutton, Nebraska; Chad (Lori) of North Platte, Nebraska; daughter Lynn (Corey) Jasnoch of Sutton, Nebraska. Eight grandchildren, Lakyn, Kesean, Tucker, Carson, Camden, Aniston, Cooper, and Bristol. Sister, Norma Mau of Sutton, Nebraska, Brother-in-law Jerrell (Rita) Johnson of Sutton, Nebraska, and numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Marvin Martin Mau, Sr., three infant brothers, nephews Marvin Martin Mau, Jr., and Edward Duane Mau, and Donald Nelson Mau.
