Verla Lee Alberts

Longtime Saronville resident, Verla Lee Alberts, 87, passed away at her home on Friday, December 16, 2022. She passed away just as she lived life, on her own terms, at her favorite place, and with family by her side. The family carried out Verla’s wishes to be cremated. There will be a celebration of life held at a later date to honor Verla and enjoy her love of the outdoors. Condolences and memories for the family can be left at www.suttonmemorial.com. As Verla had many charities that were near to her heart, memorials may be given to the family to be gifted at a later date. Verla was born on October 14, 1935, in York County to Burdette and Hattie Wave (Hager) Jones. Verla graduated from Sutton in 1953 and went on to marry Robert “Pete” Alberts on July 2, 1955. Verla and Pete spent the beginning of their marriage living in a boxcar while Pete worked for the railroad. In the early 60’s as their daughters Cynthia and Sandra grew closer to school age, they decided to return to the Saronville area to be near both their families. In 1964 they purchased their forever home in Saronville and ran their company, Alberts’ Electric, before farming with family. Verla spent much of her life as a homemaker, but in later years she worked and cultivated friendships at the Sutton Legion. Verla also had a love for her community and proudly served as a board member for the Village of Saronville for over 20 years. Verla was one of a kind and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She loved life fully but didn’t take it too seriously. If you were familiar with her, you knew that she had a t-shirt that would remind you of that fact as well as many others with sayings that always brought about smiles from all. She never lost the love of outside and animals she had discovered as a young girl, and you could often find her out in the yard and garden, saving a stray or pampering a beloved pet. When she wasn’t playing in the dirt, she also enjoyed canning, baking, bowling, music, dancing, Thirsty Thursdays, and most of all just spending time or catching up with family and friends. Her generous spirit always had her passing on the bounty from her gardening or baking pies and treats for birthdays and special occasions. Verla was preceded in death by her parents; an unborn child; her husband Pete; and 3 sisters, Barbara (Bobbi) Bolte, Betty Monson, and infant Wanda Lou Jones. Verla is survived by her loving companion Sparky; daughters Cynthia (Glenn) Ulmer of Georgia and Sandra (Daniel) Beahm of Saronville; grandchildren Tysha (David) Francis, Melanie (Phillip) Walker, Travis Songster, Valerie (Steven) Moody, Heather (Blake) McDaniel, Ashley Mingledorff, Amanda (Keith) Shafer, Casey (Nicole) Beahm, Desiree (John Michael) Cavener, Kyle (Sydney) Ulmer, Roxanne Beahm, Justin Ulmer, and Gabriel Ulmer; 26 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister Melba Willits of York, NE; brother Gary (Suzie) Jones of New Lisbon, WI; brother Richard (Shirley) Jones of Sutton, NE; as well as many nieces, nephews, family, Thirsty Thursday group, and friends.
